I’ve got 22 days left to write a book that I haven’t even started. It’s that time of the year…
NaNoWriMo in all its forms has been kicking my butt without any success in bettering my writing habits, but now that I’m out of college and unsure whether I’ll be going back, I grasp at every opportunity that mimics an English course and/or provides mentors.
Which gives me an idea: I’ll treat NaNoWriMo like an online class.
That idea just came to me. This is real-time idea hatching. I’m so glad you could be here for this momentous occasion. Let’s shake hands.
Anyway, I’ve had a fun idea in mind for months, and I think it suits CampNaNo.
What am I writing?
❤ A romance! ❤ Or a rom-com. I’m hoping it’ll be sweet and serious but also have light-hearted humor. The premise is centered around otome games, which are a cross between dating simulators and visual novels.
I’ve had otome games on my mind ever since one of my favorite content creators, Pacthesis, returned after a 3-4 year hiatus and completed her mic-drop game Star Days Sim Date. Though knowing how susceptible I am to the charm of pixel boys, I avoided any other otome games… until I found Burn Your Fat With Me! in the app store.
I needed to experience this.
And thus I downloaded an exercising otome. And met Kei.
So charming. Wrong! That’s Keisuke…
Kei is rude.
This bully is my trainer and love interest?!
He gets sweeter of course. Kind of.
Now let me tell you, I’ve done hundreds and hundreds of sit-ups to progress the story. I’ll admit to cheating for hundreds of sit-ups too… but honestly, my curiosity in the story got me to do 600+ sit-ups in two days. I go to the gym daily, but core work is my nemesis, and I lack motivation for a single sit-up, so…
“This really says something about my character…” I joked with my mom, and we laughed.
In the following pause, we both wondered, and she asked, “What does it say about you?”
“I don’t even know.”
It takes cute anime boys to make me do sit-ups..?
If there was ever a time to look like an otaku then it’s now.
I’ve realized that rather than binging on the story and doing hundreds of sit-ups, cheating the other hundreds of sit-ups, I need to pace myself. Plus what will get me to do sit-ups once the story is complete?! All in all, I’m enjoying the app, and I hope Japan creates more exercising otomes.
At Anime Expo 2017, I met a really sweet Mystic Messenger cosplayer (and saw lots of others), and she told me about how great it is. I was already intrigued, but she’s interested me more.
But for now, I’m exercising with Kei and writing about Kaoru and Kai in my new NaNo project: My Otome Love Story. I enjoy exclamation marks, so maybe it will be My Otome Love Story! Or the name will change all together, and this is a working title.
I have a synopsis, but I’d like to develop the story further before sharing details. 🙂
In other news, I visited Northern California last month and have an upcoming post about the trip. I wanted to publish it earlier, but the rest of June was like skiing on an avalanche. Then it was suddenly time to travel back to California for Anime Expo 2017. Expect an AX post as well. 😀 And July continues keeping me busy with events every weekend until the California VegFest in August. Yay!
Discussing all these fun events makes me happy. I’ve been dealing with awful (and primarily self-inflicted) stress and budding anxiety/depression, but there are these moments where the happier and more positive me is shining through. I feel my soul changing for the better, and I’m learning to trust my intuition and process.
Thank you for reading, and let me know what your plans are for July. 😀 ❤
